Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization or SEO is a methodology of strategies, techniques and tactics used to increase the amount of visitors to a website by obtaining a high-ranking placement in the search results page of a search engine – including Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines. It is common practice for internet search users to not click through pages and pages of search results, so where a site ranks in a search results page is essential for directing more traffic toward the site. The higher a website naturally ranks in organic results of a search, the greater the chance that that site will be visited by a user. SEO helps to ensure that a site is accessible to a search engine and improves the chances that the site will be found by the search engine. SEO is typically a set of “white hat” best practices that webmasters and web content producers follow to help them achieve a better ranking in search engine results.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a free service from Google that enables Web masters and site owners to freely access Web analytic data. Google Analytics tracks visitors through your site and also tracks the performance of your marketing campaigns. In Google Analytics, traffic sources is a report that provides an overview of the different kinds of sources that send traffic to your website. For example, direct traffic (clicks from bookmarks or visitors who know your URL) or Web search engines. The metrics one will find under the general topic of traffic sources in analytics programs include direct traffic, referring URLs, search engines and campaigns.

API Info

What is an API you may ask. Well, an API or Application Program Interface is a set of routines, protocols, and tools for building software applications. An API also specifies how software components should interact and are mainly used when programming graphical user interface components or GUI’s. A good API makes it easier to develop a program by providing all the building blocks. A programmer then puts the blocks back together. There are many different types of API’s for operating systems, applications or websites. Windows, for example, has many API sets that are used by system hardware and applications – when you copy and paste text from one application to another, it is the API that allows that to work. Twitter, for example, offers two APIs. The Rest API allows developers to access Twitter data and the Search API provides methods for developers to interact with Twitter Search and Trends data.
